Let Down

Mackenzie eats a bit ravenously at night before bed.  I take this as a good thing, her way of showing she knows longer sleep periods are coming and that she should eat as much as she can.  Sometimes she fusses before the milk lets down and I ensure her that it is coming.  At the same time I try to relax, breath and think happy thoughts to assist the process.  I have heard that having a picture of your baby on your pump and thinking about them while pumping can help with milk let down so I employ the same methodology when she is fussing about and saying “where is my dinner?”

I go through several happy visions of her and usually the milk lets down shortly thereafter.  First I think of her smile after waking from a nap.  One of us will go get her after her nap and when we are both there as we carry her from her room she always greets the other person with the same sweet smile.  Its a big happy smile and them sometimes she turns away with what I take as a bit of a flirt and sign of overwhelming happiness.  Then I think of her working on rolling over and one time in particular she whipped her leg back and forth, back and forth, practicing, it was so cute.  Then I think of her giggle, which is a bit nasally, both Elliott and I have heard the giggle and its just a wonderful thing to share with her.  I also like to think of her “floating” in the bath.  After we clean up in the bath, she sits on my lap and I wipe her down, I rotate her around so her feet are at my stomach and her head is furthest from me, I hold just her head and the rest of her floats peacefully, her legs kick about just so gently.  I can’t wait to see her really float and swim, perhaps in a few more months.  And with that usually the milk is flowing and she is swallowing away happily.
