My friend Jen has started blogging again, seems like most people I know fall into and out of the habit of blogging, including myself. I am following her blog post format and sharing my own One Word. Encapsulate the year 2010 in one word. Explain why you’re choosing that word. Now, imagine it’s one year from today, what would you like the word to be that captures 2011 for you? (Author: Gwen Bell) If I were to choose only one word to describe 2010 it would be Fulfilled and Balanced. I know those are two words. At the end of 2009 in my Vistage meeting we did a goal setting exercise and a part of it was to choose one word for 2010. Being the over achiever that I am I chose two words. Fulfilled and Balanced. Fulfilled has been about rounding out my life a bit more and taking a bit of the emphasis I put on myself to excel in my work into other areas of my life. One thing I wanted to work on was psychical health. I did this by completing a 28 day cleanse by Cambiati in March. Little did I know that would change my life. From that I read the Paleo Diet and have since completely changed the way I eat and think about eating. We then got a dog in June providing us a great excuse to get up and walk more, helped us to meet many more of our neighbors, and brought us lots of laughs and good times. More recently I have been working on some of my other goals. One is to work out three times a week, to help with this I joined Club One, and have been working out with a trainer once a week which has really helped to get me there the other two times a week. Another goal I have been carrying around for two years is to compost. I recently bought an under counter composter from craigslist, it isn’t up and running yet although it will be before 2011 arrives helping me to feel good about being more sustainable. Lastly, I have wanted to start meditating for awhile. I listened to some meditation tracks before although haven’t done it regularly. So I joined a class a few weeks ago which is to learn Mindfulness Meditation. Mindfulness is about being aware of the totality of you experience. Its about no judgment, although complete awareness. I think this is am important piece to finding inner piece something I have been lacking lately. So far I am really enjoying it and I do think it is going to help me achieve many great things for myself. The word I want to use to describe my 2011 would be Wellness. My focus three parts. First is physical wellness or Eat Well, continuing to eat Paleo 90% of the time. Also I want to Move Well by working out 3 times a week. Also I want to achieve mental wellness, Think Well, which I am going to start working on by meditating one time a day. Also I started working with a new coach recently and I am really excited to be working with her, I think she is going to be a great catalyst for me. Lastly I want to focus on Environmental Wellness. I want to learn to use less resources and consume less. And I also would like to finish my e-book to help others do the same. Another word for 2011 for me might be Awareness. I want to bring awareness to what I eat and how it affect my health, how much and how well I move, and how my actions are responsible for using precious natural resources. So my work is to be mindful of my actions and to work to maximize wellness for myself and I hope the environment as well. Thanks Jen for the inspiration, I hope others have a clear vision for their next year and achieve all that they set out to do.
