Scrubs Part 1 - Saturday Night

This going to be a long one so I will break it into segments that are hopefully easier to read.

It all started Saturday night.  We had a normal start to the weekend, Saturday we did some price comparison shopping at Costco and Walmart, I have been on this kick to price compare the food we buy to save money so we can spend more on the little guy about to join us.  We also bought some final items for our emergency kit, one of my nesting projects.  In the afternoon Elliott was tired so he laid down for a nap.  I continued my cleaning, organizing, normal obsessing type activities when I started to not feel well, my stomach hurt, kind of like cramps which I haven’t felt in many months, so I joined Elliott upstairs in bed.  When I woke up next at about 5pm it was to run to the bathroom and I vomited many more times that night, when asked later at the ER how many times I guessed 10, I think they thought I was over exaggerating, while I didn’t keep count I think that was about right.  In between throwing up I drank more and more liquid and at one point I told Elliott all I could look forward to was throwing up again, I see throwing up while sick as a milestone, more of the bad stuff out, so drink water, throw up, repeat knowing that it will have to end eventually.  Elliott went to the store to retrieve gluten free crackers and ginger soda and he also helped with wash clothes and refilling my water.  I also remember him making a small groan each time I got up to throw up as if to say damn its still here, I am sorry.  I had a really hard time getting comfortable laying down between being sick, I remember laying on my right side was near impossible and my abdomen was in so much pain.  We watched some tv in the middle of the night and we got very little sleep.  By the morning my vomiting had slowed down and while I didn’t feel better I decided to move downstairs.  Elliott made me some cereal, (Bob’s might tasty gluten free cereal!), which I was able to keep down, before that nothing else had lasted, including the fruit bars which I asked Elliott to take from the Emergency kit.

Sitting on the couch I finally was able to realize that the pain was mostly on my right side so I asked Elliott to look it up on line.  He found a few possibilities including appendicitis, round ligament pain, and maybe a few others.  I asked him to look for an urgent care that I could go to but none were open on the weekend, seeming to defeat the purpose of an urgent care to me.  That left just the ER as my only option, and I didn’t like that option.  I finally remembered that one of Krista’s friends is an ER doc and I could ask her for advice.  I left a half crying message on Krista’s voice mail about getting Jessica’s number.  When she called back right away I was too emotional to talk so Elliott filled her in and then he reluctantly (he doesn’t know Jessica and thought going to the ER seemed like a logical solution without calling Krista’s friend) called Jessica as well.  Jessica acknowledged that this was worth a trip to the ER which Elliott had been lobbying for all morning.  I got dressed, took a protein shake which I barely choked done a few sips in the car and we checked in to Alta Bates in Oakland.
